frequently asked questions

  • Do you take any types of insurance?

Yes! I am in network with several major insurances including most plans with United Healthcare, Optum, UMR, Aetna, Cigna/Evernorth, Medica, and Wellfirst. I encourage clients to confirm with their specific health plan that I am a covered provider, as there are plans that have specific carve-outs (such as Medicare Advantage plans). Individuals are also welcome to pay out of pocket for services.

I am not in network with Anthem BCBS or any associated plans, any Medicaid plans, or most Medicare Advantage plans at this time.

  • What is the cost per session?

For insurance-based clients, this is going to vary significantly based on your individual healthcare plan. Some plans have a copay, deductible, or coinsurance system. I have clients who pay nothing, and others who have to pay the contracted rate until they reach their deductible (which is a different rate with each insurance). I do work with my biller to provide a courtesy benefits check for anyone looking to start services.

Some insurances I’m not in network with do offer out of network benefits, which can mean services may be partially paid for by insurance. This process involves paying the full rate up front to therapist and then submitting a superbill for potential reimbursement. For those looking to go this route, these are the fees associated with the sessions that the client is responsible for initially:

    45-50 minute session: $150

    55-75 minute session: $175

    Intake session: $200

For private pay clients (those who are not using an insurance I’m in network with and are not looking to use out of network benefits), I do offer some sliding scale spots based on client income and availability.

I’ve included some ranges below for reference, since I know that varies widely.

    45-50 minute session: $100-$150

    55-75 minute session: $130-175

    Intake session: $100-200

** I do provide a couple of lower fee spots than the range listed above, but those are typically in use by current clients whose circumstances have changed to reflect significant financial hardship in order to permit continuity of care. **

  • Where are sessions held?

Sessions are scheduled to take place at the office in person in St. Louis (Richmond Heights/Brentwood area), or virtually via a HIPAA-compliant video link. Upon scheduling you will receive additional details regarding platform information and physical location info.

  • Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes - it is important to verify coverage for virtual sessions with your specific insurance plan, as the pandemic era regulations have dropped off. I do offer virtual sessions as well as in-office sessions, and we can also take a hybrid approach for any spot that in-person services are offered.

  • How frequently are sessions held?

In most cases, I start meeting with clients weekly or every other week, and from there we decide on frequency. Please inquire directly for the most up to date availability.

  • How long are sessions?

Sessions typically range anywhere from 45-55 minutes, depending on client need and presenting problem. Longer sessions (55+ minutes) may be scheduled at the discretion of client and therapist, but are typically not covered by insurance.

  • How do you approach working with teens?

In my work with teens I strive to incorporate the values of self-advocacy and independence while also working as a team with the adults in their world in order to ensure safety. I have some specific notes I review with parents and teens as we get started that covers all of the nuances with respect to privacy, safety, and our work together. Please feel free to reach out with additional questions!

  • Why are you in network with some insurance plans but not all of the major ones?

The decision on which networks to work with is largely based on administrative requirements imposed by certain plans as well as the willingness of the plan to offer a sustainable and fair reimbursement rate for services. In order to best serve my clients, it’s important for me to manage the amount of paperwork and contract with plans that are offering a sustainable rate as a solo provider.

I try to strike a balance of financial accessibility and sustainability, which is why I chose to be in network with several insurance plans in spite of the drawbacks of taking any insurance in the mental health realm.

  • What if I have more questions?

Feel free to reach out if there is anything else that would be helpful to clarify ahead of our first session together. I’m always happy to answer questions to take the mystery out of the process.

  • ...So how do I pronounce your name?

I get this question a lot, so it made the cut for this page, even though I don’t expect people to know how to say it just by reading it! It’s pronounced like the end of Montana (which can be understandably confusing, since my name isn’t actually short for anything).
